In Japan, business men often drop into a bar with colleagues after work for a drink and a good singsong and since the invention of Karaoke some 20 years ago it has become an established part of Japanese popular culture.
It is now widely believed that karaoke was started in a snack bar in Kobe City. Although this may only be an urban legend, it is possible that the origins of the commercialized, sophisticated Karaoke we know today were, indeed, just as simple.
Karaoke was at first almost exclusively an entertainment within the business culture of Japan, but it has grown to become a worldwide amusement, in part due to its infectious nature but also through technological developments.
